Planning Committee REFUSES application - 669 write to object
14/12/09The Strategic Planning Committee of Cornwall Council met today in Penzance and after a four hour debate refused planning permission to build on Battery Rocks beach.
The vote was 12 against and seven in favour.
The Friends of Penzance Harbour are deeply grateful to the members of Cornwall Council’s Strategic Planning Committee for their principled decision. Many of them had stood in the June elections on a platform of localism, and they were true to their manifesto promises.
Letters of objection were received from 669 members of the public. Letters of support were received from just 4 (four).
Hopefully the Council will now abandon their plan to build on Battery Rocks beach and fully direct their attention to alternatives, but there is always the possibility that they will try and overturn the decision.
