New Option A planning applications submitted - YOU MUST OBJECT AGAIN!
28/10/09Cornwall Council has submitted two new planning applications relating to the development of passenger and freight facilities on Battery Rocks beach: one for raising the new harbour wall and a second for “listed building consent”.
Cornwall Council is claiming that the Harbour Revision Order (HRO) already provides them with planning consent for the rest of the development. This means that, amongst other things, the passenger and freight buildings (which were not described in the HRO) could be built without any planning scrutiny at all!
The application for the new seawall above ground level appears to be the result of a drafting error in the HRO. The application for “listed building consent” is the most important since it relates to one of the main criticisms of the scheme - its impact on the town's heritage assets - and without consent the project cannot proceed.
Those who wrote letters of objection to the previous planning applications should have received news direct from Cornwall Council about the new planning applications, but this does not mean that previous objections will be taken into account. The new planning applications require new objections; objections to the previous planning applications will NOT count against the new applications.
The Friends of Penzance Harbour have prepared advice for objectors and this is available for download below. To ensure you are kept informed of developments please go to our home page and add yourself to our mailing list.
The full details of the planning application are on the Cornwall Council web site (see link below). The official deadline for objections is now November 19th.
