Planning permission sought for works depot
22/4/09A planning application has been made to turn the car park at St Anthony’s Gardens into a “construction site compound” to service the Route Partnership’s development at Battery Rocks beach. Objections must be received at Cornwall Council by May 7th. The Town Council will discuss the application on April 30th.
The planning application was submitted by Birse Coastal, a possible contractor for the project. Why the application wasn’t submitted at the same time as those relating to the main development is unclear but the senior planning officer responsible is reported as saying that the application will be assessed in the context of the others.
However, the application raises a number of special issues relating to the suitability of the site chosen for the depot and the knock-on effects for local users of the car park which include customers of the Jubilee Pool, Yacht Inn, St Mary’s Church and the Isle of Scilly Steamship Company, as well as those visiting the Promenade and Battery Rocks beach. Reports suggest the car park could be closed for two years.
The planning “application reference number”, which must be quoted when making an objection, is 09-0399-P and objections should be sent to Planning and Regeneration, Cornwall Council, St Clare, Penzance, TR18 3QW. Alternatively you can object on-line by using the link below.
The Town Council meeting will take place in Committee Room 3 at St John's Hall, starting at 19:00.
